Day 251 Perth

On the airplane, we even had dinner again. After that, I read a little and quickly fell asleep. We were lucky that the seat next to us was free. I was able to lie down across two seats and sleep soundly. Just after 6, the stewardess woke me up and brought my breakfast. I read a bit more, watched the sunrise, and quickly brushed my teeth. Just before 8, we finally landed in Perth. We picked up our backpacks and took a train straight to our hostel. The first thing we noticed was how cold it was now. It was only 16 degrees, and we were freezing all day. At the hostel, we could drop off our backpacks since check-in was at 3 PM. After that, we walked to a supermarket. It was really cool to be in a supermarket with so much selection. Jan got himself some breakfast, and we bought a SIM card. Then we sat in a café and took care of some formalities. We also started job hunting online. We also decided to leave Perth again and fly further to Darwin since it was warmer there. Back at the hostel, we had some lunch and managed to check in a bit earlier. However, when I saw the room, I would have preferred to leave. All the residents' belongings were lying around, it smelled extremely of sweat, and the beds were haphazardly arranged in the room. To make matters worse, we were unlucky enough to both have the top bunk. You could see it on our faces. We asked at the reception if there was another accommodation option because nothing looked like it did in the pictures online. The only thing she could offer me was a spot in a 4-woman dorm. I was really lucky because it was much tidier there, and I felt a lot more comfortable. Unfortunately, Jan was unlucky, as nothing else was available. After that, we lay down and rested a bit. Later, we ate something and continued to plan our stay. I coincidentally noticed that I had accidentally booked only one night. Jan was, of course, very happy about that since we only had to spend one night there. Then we headed to the cold dormitory.

Day 252 Perth

After a cold night, I woke up at 6 AM but stayed in bed until 8 AM. Then I went for a little run to warm up. On the way, I could still see a bit of the sea. On the way back, I grabbed something for breakfast for us. I quickly took a shower and packed my things since we had to check out by 10 AM. After breakfast, we went shopping first. I got a jacket and long pants because it was really too cold for me here. Next, we went to a bank because we needed an Australian bank account to have our wages deposited. Luckily, that went super fast and easy. We walked around the city and got a coffee. At half-past one, we picked up our backpacks at the hostel and headed to the bus stop. There, we learned that we couldn’t pay with a credit card. So Jan went to withdraw 50 Australian dollars. When we wanted to pay on the next bus, the driver explained that he didn’t have enough change. However, he was nice and just took us along for free. Upon arriving at the accommodation, we could go directly to the room. I first lay down. Shortly after, Rob, our landlord, arrived with his dog, Magnus. They also lived there, and we shared the kitchen and bathroom. Magnus immediately came to me and wanted to be petted. Later, we went to the supermarket to buy something for dinner. After eating, we went to bed wearing thick socks, sweaters, long pants, and with a cup of tea!

Day 153 Perth

In the morning, we made ourselves a cozy breakfast and then went for a small walk. After that, we did our laundry and rested a bit. After we had lunch, we made our way to the beach. We used the bus again and could ride for free since this driver also couldn’t provide change. We walked a bit along the beach, and after a while, we grabbed a snack from the supermarket. There, we also walked through a surf shop, and I could have bought everything! Super cool stuff! After that, we took the bus back - of course for free - since it got too cold and windy for us. Upon arrival at the accommodation, I immediately slipped into my warm clothes and lay down in bed.

Day 254 Travel to Darwin

After breakfast, we quickly packed our things and stowed the peanut butter and soy milk in our backpacks, hoping they would survive the flight. Then we ordered an Uber driver to take us to the airport. At the airport, everything was super easy, as we could check in our luggage ourselves, and during the security check, we didn't have to take anything out of the backpack. After that, we could go to the gate and just had to wait a little bit. The flight to Darwin took just over 3 hours, and during the whole time, I was reading my new book (I finally finished
