15.05. - Wednesday
Today is supposed to be the start of the spring tour with the RV. We're delayed, because we originally wanted to be on the road for a week already. But Simone and her knee require a medical assessment that is scheduled for Wednesday in Verden.
It’s now just about the decision regarding the condition of the knee and what type of surgery is needed.
Diagnosis: a new knee is on the agenda.
That’s something we have to process mentally first. It’s best to do so on the road since then everyday life is far away.
So we start the RV around noon and head to East Frisia, which is essentially the little sister of Friesland in the Netherlands.
Our first destination is the Timmeler Meer between Leer and Aurich. I heard about it from Marcus D. who piqued my curiosity.
There, we find a campsite with many permanent spots and in front of the campsite at the marina, an RV area with 19 spots, generously laid out. The sanitation building is shared with the boaters who are not yet on the move.
At the registration desk, three East Frisians are waiting, and you can immediately associate them with this region.
“Moin, wat kun wij doon for u” - sounds pretty Dutch as well.
The sun is shining, so the chairs come out and the first beer goes on the table. Wonderful, do we actually have sunscreen with us?
It's clearly not the season yet. The Timmeler Meer is a large lake with a beach, a beach club, and water sports opportunities. Surrounded by holiday homes, all of which are still empty.
What will it be like here in the peak summer?
Simone is limping through the streets with effort, and we definitely need a refreshment at the campground restaurant “Zur Mühle”.
The town doesn’t have much more in terms of dining (open!). Besides the “Greek” in the town center, there’s also the obligatory Edeka market here.
Dinner will be in the RV – we haven’t done that in a long time.
