A stopover as a stroke of luck

We spent a quiet night in Alcalá de la Selva. That wasn't necessarily to be expected, as we parked in the only larger parking lot in the area. There were only two cars parked when we arrived yesterday, but we were sure that by morning, when school and work traffic commenced, it would get busy here.
When I headed out for a little walk with the dogs around 9 this morning, I was surprised. The parking lot was empty, no cars, no people. It was eerily silent. No traffic noise, no voices, no birds chirping. Nothing. The sun peeked timidly between the fluffy clouds, as if it were still considering whether it wanted to shine here.
Somehow, that matched my mood. Our tour of the small gems of Spain is coming to an end. We had spent beautiful days. It couldn't have been better ...
Luckily, there wasn't much time to ponder. Culla was on the agenda for today, our penultimate stop. That was over 100 kilometers on the road. But which one? My GPS suggested three alternatives. The shortest was over 101 kilometers, the longest was supposed to be 175 kilometers. I opted for the shortest. I only registered on the side that it was the one that would take the longest.
A good lesson. I will have to look at the routes more closely in the future. The 100 kilometers were insane. Inclines of 12 percent, curves like in a roundabout, a small roundabout! Steep cliffs on the left, deep ravines on the right, and no room for evasive maneuvers. I drove only in first or second gear.
A traffic sign caught my eye: maintain a distance of 1.5 meters from cyclists. If I could maintain 1.5 meters here, I would be shaving the cliffs with my driver's side. I was sure that cyclists on this route would be my smallest problem. I didn't see a single one.
I took over three hours for the 101 kilometers, which makes an average speed of just over 33 kilometers. We didn’t see Culla today. I had a coffee and went to sleep.
