Island Tour
Excursion booked through TUI Cruises
The excursion includes the following
•45-minute bus ride to the viewpoint Bella Vista. Here, a photo stop. View of the coast of Paleokastritsa dotted with small coves. Refreshing drink.
•1.5 hours return trip with a short city tour through Corfu Town.
•Drive to the Kanoni peninsula with a photo stop. View of the adjacent Mouse Island Pontikonissi and the Vlacherna Monastery.
•Return journey to the ship
Unfortunately, we had bad luck with our tour guide that day. He had a car breakdown, as we learned from a TUI Cruises employee shortly before departure on the bus. Departure at 09:00. Thus, we first drove about 15 minutes without any explanations through the city. He then got onto the bus, and since I was sitting in the front row behind the driver, he was my seat neighbor on the other aisle side.
A little personal hygiene would have been appropriate.
The journey continued; he didn’t have much to say about the island throughout the tour. Just complaints about money, government, and world politics. When one thought something about the island would come up, it surely had another hook to his favorite topics.
We then reach the viewpoint Bella Vista. The restaurant 'Golden Fox'.
Upon exiting the bus, one employee provided a value for which one could exchange for a plastic cup with cola, Fanta, etc.
From the terrace, there was a view of the coves. The use of toilets was at least free, and a few small shops sold souvenirs. Everyone abstained from the 3.50€ ice cream😃.
After 45 minutes, we returned over the island to the city.
The explanations were very superficial again. We reach the Kanoni peninsula at 11:00 with further photo stops. Definitely a great panorama, but again, all tourists were on a small restaurant terrace for the photos. After 15 minutes, we continued.
Return by bus through the city. At the Old Venetian Fortress, there was an opportunity to disembark to explore the city on your own for the rest of the day.
Around 11:45, our 3-hour morning excursion was already over🤣.
I informed the staff of the shore excursion department accordingly.
In itself, this excursion, as intended when we booked it, is really great for people with limited mobility. However, if the tour guide is not motivated, then one gains nothing from it.
Next time, I’d rather take the hop-on-hop-off bus.
