Buddhist Temple/Museum on the Shimanami Kaido Cycling Road

During our cycling tour on Ikuchi Island, we visited a temple complex that was built by its owner over the course of 30 years and is dedicated to the mothers of this world. 

At the 'summit' of the temple complex, there is an area made of white stone, symbolizing the path to heaven. It is very impressive and radiant when the sun shines upon it. 

Below the temple, there is a type of cave system where you can see the history of the beliefs of this specific sect through woodcuts (very martial and brutal). Further inside the cave are countless statues and a miniature pagoda by a waterfall. If you're not prepared for it, it can really take your breath away. 

This temple is absolutely worth seeing!
