12.06.2022 Sunday 8th day of vacation

The fish market

Today we went to the fish market. There were 50 stands awaiting us. The market is purely for tourists. There were few fish stands, but plenty of souvenir stands with seagulls and seals, jewelry stands, and stands with various decorative objects. We strolled through the market, amused ourselves by trying on hats, and Gabi actually bought one, which makes her look a bit mischievous. Gabi and I treated ourselves to crab sandwiches again, and Gisela had a fish sandwich.

By the way, there are about as many cyclists here as in Venlo. Even in Niblum, you have to be careful when driving, like a hawk. After visiting the market, we went to the passage again, and that's where it happened. I saw a jacket. Oh man, it was beautiful. Since there was no price tag visible, I asked for the price and continued strolling. We indulged in ice cream and I popped into a savings bank to get a bank statement. And since it wasn't as bad as I had feared, we approached the desired object on the way back. I bought it and was happy.

Back home, we made ourselves comfortable on the balcony and enjoyed the sun. I read aloud. Since the battery of my camera had to be charged, I started working on my blog. But when the battery turned green, I put on my new jacket and asked Gabi to take a photo. But oops, I had forgotten to turn on the camera. So I turned on the camera, took a pose, and Gabi took a photo. But she said, 'I can't see anything.' I checked for myself and saw that I had forgotten to insert the memory card. So I inserted the memory card, took a pose, and click, it worked. You can see the result on the blog. Great, isn't it? By the way, this time everyone is holding back with comments. Why actually? I am happy to receive feedback.

Recently, I had stones with faces in the photos and didn't write anything about them. That's coming now. Dr. Zschucke has devoted himself to a new hobby after having a heart attack and uses stones from the island for his artworks, although the meaning is not entirely clear to me. The whole garden is full of stones with faces. With these works, he has depicted world history and in an interview, he refers to the history of Pompeii, to Nietzsche, and to Mark Antony's speech. With each work, he wants to depict world history. He describes himself as an expressionist, not an artist, although it is difficult for me to understand the fieldstone sculptures. In an interview, he answered a question: 'The question itself is already an educational element. Those who ask are looking for answers.' I watched the interview and think that he is quite eccentric and a bit arrogant. Every day I pass by this neighbor's garden, but the artworks do not speak to me.

The day ended for us with a frozen meal (chicken schnitzel, potato gratin, and buttered vegetables) and probably more rounds of games.
