Arrived well in Johannesburg and went straight on to the Drakensberg

Under difficult conditions, I had to pack my bag. Littlefoot lay on one side and looked very sad. I had to push her away from the bag. Terrible :-(....! We will come back.

On Tuesday, the big day finally arrived. We took the ICE to Frankfurt and from there to Johannesburg via Zurich. In Zurich, we saw DJ Bobo in the business lounge.

Our flight to Johannesburg was a dream. I slept fantastically for 8 hours. Actually, I didn't want to sleep, I wanted to be pampered the whole time :-)!

This time everything went well with our luggage. It arrived in Johannesburg at the same time as us :-). The car rental went smoothly as well. The people are all very helpful and super friendly.

Daniela was so brave and drove us out of Johannesburg. I emphasize DRIVING ON THE LEFT! She did a great job. There were three smaller townships on our route. Hm, it's really sad how people live there. There are also frequently people standing by the roadside who want to hitchhike. Tourists should never offer them a ride. We were told to only stop for the police.

We had to drive straight on a highway for almost 3 hours. After half the way, I took over the steering wheel. Well, the car probably never had such clean windows before. At the beginning, I kept mixing up the turn signal and the windshield wiper. Once I had to turn right and my heart didn't just drop into my pants, it went all the way down to my toes. HELP! Driving on the left is no problem, but turning right, horrible. But hey, everything went well.

Our first stop is the Drakensberg. They border Lesotho. We were overwhelmed by the sight of the mountains on the highway. Suddenly, they were right in front of us. The area looks so diverse. We are deeply impressed.

On the last 10 kilometers, we drove on a country road. This was bordered by a private reserve. Here we saw our first wildlife. However, we still need to discuss exactly what kind of animals they were :-). And then a thunderstorm came. Awesome, I love thunderstorms in the mountains :-). On the road, I noticed the so-called potholes. Well, I say they are not potholes, but rather sinkholes. I don't want to know what happens if we drive into one of those holes. I'll take a photo of it and upload it.

We arrived safely at our lodge and it's absolutely beautiful. From our terrace, we have a fantastic all-round view.

Tomorrow, we will drive to the Royal Natal Park. There must be great hiking trails and much more. We are excited.
