Cape Point Route 165 km

Yesterday we drove several sights on our route! It was a total of 165 km from the east side down to Cape Point (south-western point) and back along the west coast to Cape Town!

We were already in the car at 9:00 am and we have never seen so many people doing sports at this time! Unbelievable how many people were already active at the promenade, totally cool!

Our first stop was the cottage of the Sharkspotter! The shark spotter was watching the water. I think it's great that there is something like this and thus the safety of surfers and swimmers is a bit safer.

From the sharks we continued to their food :-) and to the penguin colonies at Boulder Beach. Oh, that was awesome. I didn't know that the penguin is made of feathers, I really thought it was fur. But the very small penguins were literally in the meadow and feathers were flying everywhere. The penguins that frolicked in the water were fascinating too. Some let themselves be washed ashore by the waves and then hopped out of the water in a hurry and waddled away. It looked really cute.

From the penguins, we drove along the east coast for a while and the view of the coast was gigantic. The cloud cover also slowly said goodbye, so we had a radiant blue sky and a beautiful view.

We continued to Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope! These sights are located in a huge nature reserve. One could have spent a whole day here, as this area is huge. We first followed the signs towards Cape Point. Suddenly the car in front of us stopped because several baboons blocked the road. One baboon jumped on the car in front of us and we found it funny. Until the moment when suddenly a big monkey jumped onto our bonnet. It sat down in the middle in front of our windscreen and looked at both of us. I was initially very excited, but that calmed down relatively quickly. The monkey moved slightly outward and still looked at us, then it grabbed the wiper and bent it a little. 'Hey,' I said to him, 'stop that, you're breaking it'! Hm, okay, he can't hear me, but he stared at me and let go of the wiper. It didn't take five seconds before he took it again and bent it extremely towards himself. Daniela pounded against the windscreen. Yes, what happened next, one should actually have experienced live. The monkey jumped over the side mirror to Daniela at the side window and hit it. He was really mad at her. It was hilarious. So if we had had a window open, Daniela would have needed a rabies vaccination. I started driving very slowly and the monkey jumped off the car. But we still didn't get away because the monkeys kept throwing themselves in front of the cars and crawling across the road so that the cars would stop. It looked like a car attack. It was really like a scene from a movie.

Honestly, 'Mr. Nilsson' has been deleted from my Christmas wishlist after this monkey action :-)!

After the monkey attack, we drove to Cape Point. There is a controversy as to whether the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean meet there or at the southernmost point of Africa, at Cape Agulhas. From the parking lot, we had to hike up a short path and from the highest point, we had a gigantic panoramic view. But it was too crowded for me there. Help, when you travel alone through South Africa for almost 3 and a half weeks and then THIS. No, I really had a little problem with that.

From Cape Point, we went to Cape of Good Hope. On the way there, ostriches were standing on the beach, it was quite a sight. Turquoise water, white beach, and three ostriches were walking on it - incredible. Luckily, Cape of Good Hope wasn't that crowded, so we could quickly take our photos and move on. We saw a beautiful beach in the nature reserve and wanted to stay there for a while. It was fantastic there. We walked through the water with our feet, it was sooooo cold, it immediately reminded me of a cold water basin in the Allgäu. We also collected some seashells and honestly, every time I bent over the water to clean the seashells, I was afraid of a shark *terrifying*. Johann had told us that a woman was killed by a shark in the shallow water. But nothing happened to us while cleaning the seashells :-)! We enjoyed the sun on a large rock for quite a while.

In the late afternoon, we drove back along the west coast towards Cape Town. The west coast was also fantastic to drive along, especially Chapman's Peak Drive offers a wonderful view of the sea and the coast. We had to stop, get out and take photos over and over again. The sun also slowly said goodbye.

We arrived at our accommodation quite tired and I fell asleep quite quickly!
