Phrae + Journey to Sukhothai

After a rather bumpy bus ride – the shock absorbers must have quit their job years ago – we finally arrived in Phrae.
Our accommodation was, let’s say, strategically interesting: right next to the prison. But it was a really beautiful old wooden house, full of little details, hand-carved decorations, and plenty of charm. As soon as we entered, it felt like a small green oasis with lots of wood and lovely hosts.
In the evening, we wandered a bit, explored the city, and visited the night market. Quite crowded, yet still charming with its small businesses.
The next day started unusually, but well: Pad Krapow for breakfast. Let’s just say – slightly spicy, but effective for waking up. Then we made a quick stop at the bus station to buy tickets for the next leg to Sukhothai.
As a reward, we enjoyed Thai tea with a view of a whole row of aquariums. For Egg, it was a small dream - fish here, fish there..
Then it was temple day:
Wat Chom Sawan – influenced by Burmese style, beautiful wooden works, very peaceful.
Wat Si Chum – small but fine, and pleasantly shady.
Wat Phong Sunan – strikingly white, with golden peaks, almost a bit kitschy beautiful.
Wat Phra Non – here lies an impressive reclining Buddha, entirely in gold.
In between, we also visited the Khum Vongburi Museum from the outside – a pink wooden house, unfortunately closed on Sundays.
For lunch, we had Pad Thai and cake – and since the day had been quite full so far, we decided to take the afternoon a bit easier. Egg later went off on a solo exploration tour while I just did nothing.
In the evening, we enjoyed a cozy meal with Chinese noodle soup and took a little stroll through the night market – until the rain came. We managed to hang out at 7-Eleven during that.
For breakfast this time, we had Panang Curry – yes, at nine in the morning, but why not. After that, we waited for the bus. We wanted to bet a little on how long the supposed 5-minute delay really was. It turned out to be “only” 30 minutes in the end.
The ride itself was pleasant; I slept for a good part of it. Egg read through the entire internet.
After a short tuk-tuk ride, we arrived at our accommodation. Very quiet and clean, except for the “small” pets.
We spent the rain shower well while eating. And that was it for today.
