Hawaii 2022 - Part 2: Kauai

Day 1

Flight from Big Island to Kauai. 

Before we can check in to our hotel room, we visit the Wailua Falls. The view from the parking lot is nice, but the somewhat adventurous descent to the small lake was definitely worth it. 

We will spend the next 4 days in a beautiful hotel by the sea, from where we will go on our tours. 

Day 2

Today we spend our day in Waimea Canyon. The many lookouts are beautiful, but the highlight for us was the hike from Pu’u O Kila Lookout along the Kalalau Gorge to the Nā Pali Coast.

Day 3

Today we had our long-awaited helicopter flight. It was indescribable to fly over the island. Most canyons, waterfalls, and coastline sections cannot be reached on foot. The nature is truly overwhelming. No wonder this backdrop was used for several Hollywood films, such as Jurassic Park

Day 4

Today we spent a relaxing day and drove along the southern coast of the island. This side is significantly drier than the rest of the island and was a contrast to the north, where we will go tomorrow. So we mainly spent the day on the beach swimming and relaxing, and of course, observed the many surfers. 

Day 5

Today we head north. Passing many small towns, the Kilauea Lighthouse to Hanalei. Here, there are some beautiful beaches and the town of Hanalei itself.  Actually quite touristy, but very nice for strolling, shopping, and eating ice cream. 

Day 6

Actually, today we wanted to hike the Kalalau Trail along the Napali Coast. Unfortunately, nowadays you have to reserve online long before for many trails, and the number of visitors is limited. Such a shame!! We spent the morning snorkeling at Tunnel Beach and were rewarded with being able to observe many sea turtles and colorful fish. The rest of the day we relaxed at our beautiful hotel. 

Tomorrow we will fly to Maui and start Part 3 of our Hawaii trip.
