Island Day 1

Published: 06.08.2022

Hello😊

We sleep more than 9 hours. This time not with 3 blankets, but with a thin sheet 😆. Breakfast is from 7 to 10 😊 We are still a bit hesitant with ordering because the menu has so much variety. But you can really take EVERYTHING you feel like having. We eat toast, croissants, fried eggs, and a fruit platter. Freshly squeezed orange juice🍊 on the side. We also learn Swahili words🙂 The hotel manager walks around with a friendly look like yesterday evening and greets the guests 😇

By the way, the shower and tap water is salty 😅

We explore the facility a bit and enjoy the view at the jetty. In the spa, we book a massage for tomorrow and ask about a diving course for the day after tomorrow 🙂 At the beach, the hotel staff is super friendly and brings us mattresses because all the sunbeds are already occupied 😇 We lie down on the fine sand and read a bit. Next to us, a small black and white colobus monkey appears 🐒. Benny tests the water and the waves at the dream beach 🌊 It's about 26 degrees Celsius in the air and the water is pleasant.

After that, we retreat to our balcony (with a sunbed☀️). Melly is not feeling completely well today, so we skip the Forrest Walk. Benny enjoys the fresh fruit that was brought to us yesterday as a welcome gift along with a bottle of red wine 😊 We sleep with relaxing chillout music 😴 or do a round of yoga (with Mady Morrison) 🧘‍♂️ perfect for relaxation 🤗 By the way, the electricity is turned off here from 10 am to 5 pm to relieve the generators 👍

Meanwhile, it's low tide. We see cheeky colobus monkeys 🐒 in the facility and a blue peacock right in front of the bar 🦚. We grab our water shoes and take a stroll around the northern half of the island on the rocky foreshore. Here we can observe small fish🐟, seashells🐚, and crabs, see caves, and find an antler. In the rocks, we see large isopod animals (we're still looking for their name🤣 maybe a beetle snail?). On the west side, we briefly see the sun setting behind the clouds🌅 while a heron embarks on a journey. We puzzle over funny creatures (water centipedes🦠 and shells with a hole in the middle, as well as animals/plants that grow like roots from the sand😅 Research: Mangrove roots for breathing)

We enjoy our second dinner (on the way to the restaurant a small lizard🦎) and briefly chat with the manager. He says it's been as windy in the evenings as it hasn't been in 20 years in August...🌬

We play some cards on the balcony and try the red wine 🍷😊 First day in paradise 🥰

Stay tuned 🏖🏝
