Good morning from Sandskaer Campsite!
After we retired to our bunks last night, the rain picked up. The forecasted extensive rain area was indeed real. Normally, we campers only trust weather forecasts for the next 60 minutes. But of course, that doesn’t faze the fully equipped green giant at all.
When we woke up this morning, the rain area was still over us and all of Denmark. Of course, that didn’t stop us from giving our bodies the care they needed. By the way, in absolutely excellent sanitary facilities.
The captain had a small video call lined up, which allowed me to attend to my usual duties as 1st officer. After thorough research on routes and places, considering all available weather forecasts and evaluating climate diagrams since the recording of this data, I worked out the route to today’s destination. Spoiler: it turned out differently.
In pouring rain, we freed our rolling home from electricity and stored the leveling ramps. The captain himself took the helm. We were headed towards Copenhagen. The precipitation intensified and became heavy. At times we weren’t sure if we were already in the middle of the Baltic Sea. But again: the Special Forces vehicle made its way through. Unwavering, it held its course and plowed through the water masses, while vehicles around us skidded across the highway due to aquaplaning. Cars spun on their own axes. It was crashing and banging in front of, behind, and next to us. We took only brief notice and the wild ride continued… Okay, maybe that wasn’t exactly the reality. Fortunately, we didn’t witness any accidents :)
We became hungry, as we had only had coffee for breakfast. As the food coordinator, I am responsible for the provisions during the trip. So I suggested to the helmsman a small burger place just a few kilometers off the highway. He skillfully navigated the battle colossus into the residential area near “Mulles Madglæde”. This gem turned out to be a bullseye. The burgers were freshly prepared by the two ladies behind the counter with the greatest attention to detail and they tasted absolutely excellent.
In the meantime, we were in contact with Martin from Copenhagen. Unfortunately, he is sick and probably won’t be fit again until the weekend. However, that doesn’t fit well with our planning. Therefore, we decided to head to Copenhagen on the way back, and I drove the Benz - now on dry pavement - past the capital into the north. In Helsingør, we made a fuel stop. On this occasion, we switched places, so that I could take care of a possible overnight accommodation. Due to the lack of suitable spots (so suggested by the beloved app “Park4Night”), I simply set Sweden as the destination. Kadir didn’t take long to follow. He followed the GPS to check-in at the ferry terminal and immediately purchased the ticket for the crossing. Okay, I had to fish the ticket from the machine after a short walk. The height of a vehicle has perhaps not only advantages. He skillfully positioned us in row 6. But why did the machine print “Row 10” on the ticket?
This actually didn’t matter at all and so we parked the behemoth in the belly of the ferry. A little side note: the entire process from ticket purchase to arrival in Helsingborg took 37 minutes. Maybe the guys from Wischhafen could do with a little internship here...
I found the “Persköps Ställplats” to be adequate. So we aimed directly there. After leaving the main road, we immediately found ourselves in the advertising catalog for Sweden. A few kilometers through this glossy brochure and we were already at the site. The very friendly operator explained to us that none of the 44 spots were free. Aaaaaaaber: he still had one last special spot ;) We could park our military car right next to the entrance and exit. And after I had finally fulfilled my tasks as a wedge positioner to the captain’s satisfaction, the camouflage vehicle stood firm and straight.
We positioned ourselves with the obligatory welcome drinks overlooking the open washing-up area in front of our house and watched the other guests with their chores. Life can be so beautiful.
Later in the evening, Kadir conjured up some wonderful cold drinks. However, these did not make us more awake, so we heeded the call of the beds.
Good night
