Darum! Good morning!

When I woke up, the first thought was “the branch of the oak has obviously not fallen on our mobile home or me.” The wind had calmed down, and so this night was again wonderful and without any notable incidents.

As on almost every morning, shortly after waking up, thoughts about a cabin in the sanitary area spread in my mind. The Captain was still slumbering, so I moved, as usual, on tiptoes through the various rooms of our steadfast lodgings. I gathered all the necessary items from various corners. I will still address the advantages and disadvantages of two people in 6.2 square meters in such a colossus separately. As quietly as possible, I opened the sliding door of the monster and made my way to the new and very well-kept shower area. The path there led over soaked grassy areas and past some housemates in their tents, who were still clearly audible and had not yet awakened.

All the different conditions at the campsites led to me having to walk back again today. Of course, I had left the two chip cards needed for showering at a central place in the dashboard of the Benz. They were still lying there now. So back I went, opening and closing the sliding door again. Hopefully, this will go well with Captain Kadir. Fortunately, it went very well.

To my repeated astonishment, the two showers were not occupied, which made me question again whether I might be overthinking things. So, card in hand, and a counter started running backward on the display. I hurried under the shower. Since I probably didn’t fully understand the campground operator yesterday afternoon, the (warm) water could end at any moment. But it didn’t.

On my way back, I met a gentleman in his gray uniform whom I knew very well. I greeted him kindly, wished him a good morning, and asked about the chip card. At that moment, I had certainly earned plenty of advance praise for today. I made the boss happy and even gave him my card as a little treat, as I had not used it all up. Some time later, I once again had an excellent coffee from the onboard café in my hand. While Kadir was still working on one thing or another, I enjoyed the performance of our Dutch neighbors across the way. Yesterday, I had joked upon arrival, “look, they brought the Fiat 500 with them in their gigantic motorhome.” Today, I was proved wrong, as they had a trailer with them. The pastel-colored car was driven onto the trailer and attached to the rolling single-family home. One day, surely people will be able to take their own house and garden on vacation too.

Our drive today took us along country roads through the relatively monotonous Danish landscape on the west coast. Although we didn’t have Swedish conditions here, we enjoyed the beautiful farms, houses, and the vastness of this region. As hunger set in in the front row, we felt the conditioning of the past days. Our brains demanded meat, fried items, and sauces. What was more obvious than to choose a fast-food place that wasn’t Burger King or McDonald’s? We chose “Sunset Boulevard” in Brunde. With the experiences of the past days, we could give them four out of five stars, although the additional ordered remoulade sauce was rather mediocre.

At Rendsburg, we finally left the highway and the driver directed our camouflage vehicle towards Glückstadt. We had decided for various reasons not to spend another night at a Danish or German campsite.

Since we still had no hurry about anything, we weren’t bothered by the traffic jam starting 2.2 km before the ferry terminal. Gradually, we crept closer to the banks of the Elbe with all the other vehicles. When the obligatory sign “fish sandwich” appeared by the roadside, the Captain couldn’t be stopped any longer. I was extremely confused. Is he serious? Had another stomach formed over the past days? The Sunset Boulevard was still very much present in my mind, and Kadir was already hungry again? He surely burned significantly more calories while sitting since he was in charge of vehicle control. So all was good.

Nostalgically, we thought of Helsingborg and Helsingør as we were allowed on board the ferry after two hours and seven minutes. The 65 km from Wischhafen to the headquarters of the Militaria-Benz was tackled by the vehicle and crew routinely. At 19:42 local time, Hulk was back at the starting point of this journey after 2743.5 km.

I received comprehensive instructions from the Captain regarding the upcoming measures. Since I had been paying attention both in October 2024 and over the past nine days, it was relatively easy for me to follow these instructions. There was little criticism, and in some places, even praise. For instance, when I pointed out the water under the vegetable compartments in the refrigerator. Thirty minutes after arrival, our home of the last days was emptied, allowing us to enjoy the welcome drink.

We embraced each other and rejoiced at the wonderful time we had together again.
