Almost eight years ago, I wanted to walk the Camino de Santiago for the first time.

A friend with her own plans, a new movie, and freely available vacation time have now inspired me to do it at very short notice.

I don't have any spiritual background, just a desire to walk. All wonderful encounters are warmly welcomed, and if any realization emerges in Santiago de Compostela, I will gladly accept it.

But after the first two mishaps or funny occurrences, I am now starting this blog.

Day 1 - 19.05.2025

Flight with Lufthansa to Porto goes perfectly. I'm quickly outside with my carry-on luggage and am surprised at how well it works with Uber. I'm using the Uber app for the very first time. Accordingly, I searched for the location with the address and accepted the first option. I was also very satisfied with the price of just under €14!

As the drive becomes more rural, I become skeptical. In some dead-end street, the driver and I look at each other, confused, and realize that while the street is correct, the location is not...

So, the same street, the same house number, but this time heading to Porto. Instead of 14, it’s 44 €, well, I think: Lessons learned!

The rest goes perfectly, picking up the small apartment in the middle of the old town and a 90-minute city tour with a guide who speaks English too quickly.

I understand everything, but it tends to make me a bit nervous.

Porto is a really beautiful city, where history blends with the new. The relaxed Portuguese way of life mixed with tourists from all over the world creates a unique atmosphere.

The tour is also a great warm-up for the upcoming camino; later, I walk to my dinner. I wanted Portuguese tapas and a port wine. Since sardines are a specialty of the city, I tried them in a bruschetta variant, not bad at all.

Day 2

After a nice and inexpensive breakfast, I walk again across this impressive bridge, and for a moment I realize I am happy, what I still need to learn is that I don't have to share it but can also just feel it for myself...
