A Day on the Beach...

Hey folks,

after a lovely sunrise, we decided to take a beach day today.

Destination: Luskentyre Beach, Seilebost Beach, and McLeod Beach. All 3 beauties are located in Harris, which means we have to travel all the way to the other end of the island today. So no hesitation... secure your shoes, zip up your jacket... and off we go.....

We're facing a 48-minute journey.

The drive to Harris presents us with mixed weather, but we're optimistic that we won't get too wet today. The closer we get to Harris, the more at ease I feel. The area reminds me a lot of the Highlands, complete with sheep on the road :o) and I somehow feel at home.... well, it's like a mini version of the Highlands.... but that's okay. I find it beautiful and I'm having fun :o)) 

Upon arriving in Tarbert, we treat ourselves to a delicious breakfast and then head towards Luskentyre (or as I say: Lüksemükse). The drive to the parking lot takes us over a 5 km long single-track road. But, as clever as the Scots are, there are plenty of 'Passing Places', so it’s not a problem either on the way there or back.

Upon arrival, we hike through the dunes towards the beach and then it’s there..... in all its glory.... a long bright sandy beach and blue-green water.... won-der-ful!!!!

We walk along the beach and later back through the dunes. It was truly a dream.... though it ended with a bit of rain.

Then we continue to Seilebost Beach, which we only admire from above. It is actually connected to Luskentyre, and we drove to the other side and paid it proper homage from above.

A few miles further lies McLeod Beach. A small but nice beach where some artists sit on the rocks and draw.

Then it’s time to head back, and we decide to make a quick detour to the 'Hebridean Soap Shop'. Many of the handcrafted items on the Hebrides are made and sold 'at home'. This includes the handmade soap from this shop. The two ladies are super friendly and explain to us exactly how they make the soaps. They have a really charming little shop, and behind it is the 'workshop', where I was allowed to take photos, of course with permission.

On the way to the Soap Shop, we encountered rain at a strength of 'double windshield wiper speed'. Good thing we were in the car :o))))

Tonight, we spotted seals in the harbor, right below the Castle. Unfortunately, they were further away, and the photo didn't turn out very well. But there were definitely 4 or 5 of them in the water.

Unfortunately, the weather is expected to be very, very bad tomorrow, and we’ll see what the day brings.
