Coralie and Faouzi

Many people travel to Chefchaouen just for the photos, Coralie shares. Girls in short skirts, dressed lightly, pose on the blue steps of the blue-and-white city. Coralie shakes her head. And this! Among all the Muslims. And she's right. The city – beautiful, each house painted in blue and white – is overrun by tourists. Many also from Morocco itself. They take photos with parrots while influencers pose for their selfies.

Coralie is from Belgium. She once went on a tour like I did. She traveled to Morocco with her van and daughter, then ended up stranded by the river with Faouzi and a view of the mountains. She fell in love – and stayed. In the evenings, we sit together with two British campers. We eat tajine, drink tea, and later, hashish is served. The whole family joins us. Time and again, we get lost in the language chaos, but we still understand each other. We laugh a lot about our countries, about stereotypes, about everything.
