Hello everyone

I'm checking in a bit later than planned – and this time unfortunately from bed. I've also been hit by the nasty wave of illness and I'm currently struggling with a sore throat and a bad cold. But as the saying goes: life goes on – and I'd still like to share my recent adventures, which have taken me to wonderful places and through exciting experiences.

New experiments in the lab and a sweet cultural exchange

Last week, I spent a lot of time in the lab. I’m currently working on some new experiments that should give me even more precise insights into my proteins. I'm still waiting on a final evaluation, but the first results look quite promising. My supervisor is definitely satisfied – and that always reassures me.

In between, there was even a little cultural exchange in the lab. My lab partner brought me one of his favorite cookies, and of course, I wanted to show him a piece of Berlin. So I brought him something that reminds us of Berlin. The enthusiasm was great, and I must say, it’s always nice to share such little traditions together.

Strolling, window shopping, and changeable weather

After lab hours, I couldn’t resist spending a day in the city. Just strolling through the shops, looking at window displays, and watching the hustle and bustle – I always really enjoy that. Did I buy something here and there? Well... let's just say I'm not coming home empty-handed. 😉

Unfortunately, the weather has worsened a bit in the meantime. The sun is showing up less frequently, and there are increasingly more rainy days. But I've been lucky so far – the rain has mostly spared me. And when it does rain, I think of my old gym teacher's words: “There’s no bad weather, only bad clothing.” She’s right!

A weekend in Canterbury

Despite the forecasted rain, I didn’t want to just stay home over the weekend and spontaneously took a day trip to Canterbury. What a beautiful little town! The cathedral there is simply breathtaking – a true postcard motif. I strolled through the narrow streets of the old town and took a walk along the river, which made me really dream. I love such moments during my time here.

Culture, conversations, and Pho for a sore throat

On Sunday, I met up with a friend from my lab group. We went to the Barbican, a huge cultural and leisure center here. I was already impressed by the architecture. We sat for hours in a small café, chatted, and let the weekend carry us away. In the evening, we went for a steaming hot Pho – perfect soul food, especially as my sore throat was starting to kick in.

A holiday that turned out differently than planned

On Monday, it was a holiday here and I had big plans: I wanted to visit the famous Windsor Castle. But being sick in bed ruled that out. However: postponed is not canceled! As soon as I'm fit again, this trip will be rescheduled, I won't let that get me down.

Looking forward to the next adventures

Now it’s time to get healthy. I'm curious about what the next days will bring and what experiences are still waiting for me. One thing is for sure: I will continue to take you along on my journey – and I’m glad you'll be joining me.

Until then, stay healthy,

Yours, Steffi
