St. Albans - between shopping, cathedral, and a 3-course menu!

Once we found the shopping mall, we immediately dove into one shop after another. However, we couldn't find anything that we wanted to buy. Except for some cosmetics like body lotion and lip butter, it was a budget-friendly day! At least so far...

We finally decided to take a lunch break. We initially sat in a café where I ordered my first English tea, a 'red berry & flowers'. Very good - and very British! Then our stomachs started growling and we moved our break to the 'Bread Shop'. I only need to say one thing about it: the absolute best chocolate croissants of my life!

Now it was time for a bit of sightseeing. St. Albans is very famous for its cathedral. 'The Cathedral Church of St. Albans' has much more to offer than I initially thought. Firstly, the property and the building are really huge for such a small town. The cathedral is beautiful from the outside, typically English, but it becomes truly fascinating from the inside. <br />I don't know how to put it into words... The pictures speak for themselves, but the feeling behind it is hard to describe. It's somehow a mixture of awe, purity, and admiration. It simply felt like a sacred place. <br />I walked along the endlessly long aisle towards the colorful stained-glass window - and for a brief moment, I thought to myself: 'This is how it must feel, similar yet different, when you get married and walk down this aisle'. <br />When I reached the front, I couldn't help but light a candle. A candle for the people I miss, no matter where they may be right now.<br />I listened devoutly to the choir, singing in perfect harmony, so much so that we initially wondered if it was a CD playing. But when we reached the back of the cathedral, we saw that it was live as there was a small worship service happening.

On our way to the cathedral, we decided to treat ourselves and have a fancy dinner. And so we did! Well, almost. In between, we had to kill some time - Thank you, Starbucks.

Right next to the cathedral, we discovered a cute newly opened restaurant called 'La Vista' which we were eager to try. Exquisite, yet affordable. And also beautifully decorated on the inside, with a modern vintage look featuring light wood and pastel turquoise tones. I like it!

We entered the small restaurant as the first guests at precisely 6:30 PM and were warmly welcomed right away. As soon as the menus were placed on our table, it was almost decided - a Caprese Salad as a starter, then a Classic Beef Burger as the main course, and then we'll see if there's still room for dessert (or rather, what's on the dessert menu :D). And what can I say, even though there wasn't really room for it, we still ordered desserts: a New York Cheesecake for Miri, and a hot Apple Pie for me. Yummy!!! <br />Afterwards, I felt like I was going to burst, but hey. That incredibly delicious 3-course menu was so worth it! Too bad the restaurant isn't closer to us... But come to think of it, maybe it's better that way :D<br />We left the restaurant at around 9:30 PM and headed to the bus stop. What a long, but also delicious day!

After spending a whole week - including last weekend, unfortunately - sick in my bed and not being able to do ANYTHING (except reading my London travel guide, watching old series, and drinking tea), I am very excited to finally tell you about my weekend trip to St. Albans!

I don't know exactly why we always encounter extreme weather conditions during our trips... But this time there was a winter storm and it was snowing all day Saturday. So, I had to take out my winter jacket from the suitcase, wrap a thick scarf around my neck, and put on gloves - and off we went!
