12th Day: Fátima and Porto
Why did I go to Fátima? I can't claim that I did it out of religious conviction. That would probably not be believed by someone who has left the church. Although that doesn't...

The night had been surprisingly okay. Although I had a hard time falling asleep, even though I had enjoyed a few goodnight beers (Happy Hour at the hostel: €2.00 for a pint of beer) and had a lively conversation in English with Michael, a Polish lawyer.
I spent the penultimate day at Matosinhos Beach. After a good breakfast at the hostel, I took the metro from the nearby Trindade station for €2.20 and arrived at Matosinhos Beach in about 30 minutes.
I went all the way to the last stop (two stops before the beach) to take in the port atmosphere and I wasn't disappointed: there were many seafood restaurants cooking their grilled fish outside. A accordion player was also playing and it smelled delicious, but I had just had a good breakfast.
The weather was perfect for a beach visit: about 27 degrees and a light breeze.
Unfortunately, I had a small series of mishaps here: first, my wireless headphones fell out of my ear into the water and immediately stopped working. Then, I noticed that both soles of my sandals were coming loose in the water. I finally got rid of them at the hostel and threw them away (after several years).
I ended the evening, a bit worn out from the sun, at the hostel.
