Good morning, Lapie Lake! 🌞
This morning, we were practically glued to the camper window – hoping that a friendly bear was outside, waving and wishing us a great day. Unfortunately, no luck. No bear. Not even a moose with a bouquet. But there was a brilliant blue sky panorama and a view of Lapie Lake so cheesy that even postcards would be envious.
With this dreamy weather, our breakfast tasted twice as good. After that, it was again time to make the camper pothole-ready, as our adventure on the Canol Road – pardon, the legendary Highway No. 6 – was entering the next round. 🚐💨
Ursula, our ambitious wildlife spotter, was of course back on duty. Today went a bit better than yesterday: We saw countless squirrels, a whole gang of spruce grouse, and even a single porcupine crossing the road leisurely – presumably on its way to yoga class. 🧘♂️
The scenery? Simply breathtaking. We continued driving through endless forests, past sparkling lakes and wild rivers, and every look out the window resembled a page from a nature calendar.
Finally, the time had come: End of the Canol Road! 🎉
We merged onto Highway No. 4 and made a short detour to Ross River. Then it was onward – 360 kilometers of gravel road lay ahead of us. At first, it sounds like a challenge, but after Highway No. 6, No. 4 felt like a freshly ironed highway. 🛣️ The potholes suddenly became a rarity and our speed shot up to previously unknown heights. Just before the destination, the road suddenly got a center line. A highlight after the last two days 🙃
The route to Watson Lake was a dream: wild forest landscapes, wide views, and T-shirt weather at 12–15 °C. Canada showed its best side. 🌲🌞
Around 7:30 PM, we finally rolled into Watson Lake – and immediately encountered the next deluxe travel disappointment: The Northern Lights Center, which we were so eager to visit, had its very last day open today… and we were too late. Of course. “Closed for Season,” once again. 🙃
A bit downcast, we parked our camper at the nearby campground, but instead of throwing in the towel, we opted to put a pizza in the oven. 🍕 Because as the saying goes: When life gives you closed museums – make pizza out of it.
