Day 20: Denver

Published: 11.07.2024

After finally packing our things together, we make the last kilometers to the camper rental. Without any problems, we return the car and are taken to the hotel by shuttle bus. We can check into our hotel room right away. Then we promptly start our tour to Denver. Our airport hotel is near the metro, so we walk there, buy day tickets, and the children ride for free. Around 2 PM, we reach downtown Denver. First, we want to visit the fire department museum. We walk almost 2 kilometers through the city to get there. Denver is modern and a typical American city. There are some 'old' buildings as well. Once we arrive at the museum, we explore the exhibition showcasing the work of the fire department over time. René even gets a discount as a firefighter. Afterwards, we do some shopping at the museum shop. Then we stroll through Denver and admire the city hall and the State Capitol with their impressive buildings. There is a long shopping street, but currently, construction is ongoing. The typical stores are missing, with only a few souvenir shops and restaurants to be found. It is clear that work is being done here, while locals go shopping elsewhere. We then walk through Larimer Square, a small historic district. We realize we don't have much desire to explore the city further. So, we head to Union Station and take the train back to the hotel. Nearby, we eat at a diner. Once back at the hotel, we relax and then go to bed with the children.
