The day began again today with an animal experience - pelican feeding here in the town, always at this time, in the same spot. There were also plenty of onlookers present. A volunteer brought enough fish to feed the seven pelicans that were here today. There was a lot of information for the spectators about these animals. The feeding has a long tradition, as decades ago this ritual evolved from the pelicans marching across the street to the café opposite, hoping for food. This café is now called 'Café Pelikan'. For animal welfare reasons, it was decided to support them in their search for food on the opposite section of the beach. A wonderful idea and well attended daily!

Today's main goal was to explore some hotspots of 'Kalbarri NP' - a vast territory! A river winds its way through these reddish-brown rock formations for 700 km. Animals were again only seen 'in metal'. There are well-developed hiking trails and nature paths. Everything is well thought out, with the appropriate instructions for use. We had a cloudy sky today, in summer it can reach up to 50 degrees here. Especially lovely is the spring when the wildflowers bloom. A highlight is this 'window', created by nature.

It was quite a ways to the 'Pink Lagoon', but: incredible, the color is due to microorganisms. Sometimes it turns blue towards the middle. The 'beach' was also pink and very firm due to the salt crystals.

Sunscreen was not necessary, but nets that you pull over your heads/hats were needed to keep the bush flies from 'eating' you - unpleasant little creatures. By the ocean or when the wind blows, you have some peace from them!

On the way back, we passed several bays with spectacularly colored rocks where the waves were crashing. Finally, we observed surfers paddling in the water, waiting for the perfect waves. The waves, about 3 - 4 meters high, come with such force that it's hard to imagine.

Today we traveled about 300 km to see the highlights of the national park and the Pink Lagoon. What a vast land, with bushland almost everywhere to the right and left! The access roads are top-notch, rarely any sand. We didn't have to use all-wheel drive!
