Surprise - in front of our window in Cervantes, two kangaroos were grazing this morning, probably a mother and her joey! And across the way was a large gathering of pink cockatoos. Here, in a remote location, you find what you are constantly searching for in national parks! We immediately headed to the 'Nambung National Park' with the 'Pinnacles Desert', which is 14 km away. What an alien world! On a 4 km circular path, you can see these pillars as far as the eye can see in the mustard-colored sand! How did they form? There is no explanation for that. Some are up to 4 meters high, and there are also pink cockatoos here. From the highest point in this area, you can see the white dunes by the Indian Ocean. Simply surreal! Then, we continued 70 km through bushland, again passing burnt areas. We made a stop in Green Head, the next sleepy place, where the sun was shining brightly. A little hike led us to three bays. The sea lions that are said to be often seen here were unfortunately absent. Now came the longest leg of the day, 320 very long kilometers, scarcely populated, with occasional flocks of sheep that had to be content with very dry grass. In between, there were also fields that had been harvested. We only needed to refuel ourselves, eat, and replenish our supplies. There aren’t many gas stations and supermarkets here, as the population is also limited. There are occasional smaller shops; we experienced this yesterday. The selection is quite limited, and many products were not priced, so the surprise comes at the cash register. By around 4:30 PM, we reached our destination for today - Kalbarri. There we witnessed a special boat tour. The boat surged full speed into the waves, and everyone gets 200% wet. This is known in advance and that’s where the fun lies! Also, the ocean is not very cold. And of course, we quickly headed out for the sunset - today without beer ...!
