NP Santa Elena and night hike

"Our hike in the quiet Santa Elena Wet Forest Reserve quickly turned into a mud hike. The rain was incessant, and the ground was so soggy that the mud was ankle deep. Each step required complete concentration, and the beauty of the cloud forest faded into the background , no one wanted to slip. Despite the humidity, it was impressive.
Despite the adverse conditions in the morning, we ventured out on a night hike in the evening. Under the starry sky we experienced nature in a whole new dimension. How dark can it be? Armed with flashlights and a guide, we walked quietly into the cloud forest to perhaps see some of the nocturnal inhabitants of the cloud forest. With our knowledge and lazy eyes, without an experienced guide we would not have seen anything but absolutely nothing. He showed us the green-yellow palm lancenotta, a bird spider, that had set up camp for the night not far from the path. Various birds and with a lot of luck we were able to see (unfortunately not with the naked eye) a sloth and its young animal through the guide's binocular lens.
The two hours passed so quickly and showed how mystically diverse and fascinating the night in the cloud forest of Costa Rica is.
