The majestic Irazú volcano

Costa Rica is home to the impressive Irazú Volcano, which is the highest volcano in the country at over 3,400 meters. Surrounded by lush rainforest, the volcano is a spectacular sight with its crater-like peak and actually a deep blue crater lake. Thanks to the drought, there is no water in the crater.

So on the first day we went to the Irazú volcano. Since it has a considerable altitude of 3400m, hiking poles were essential. I thought.

The journey was overwhelming, the vegetation and mountainous landscapes were constantly changing.

Then the disillusionment for me, we drove to the top, nothing with climbing, it was more of a very short walk.

It was so windy and cold that weather-appropriate clothing and headgear were necessary.

Admiring the breathtaking view and just being aware that I'm now standing in a crater and the volcano is still active was so, so great. The "hike" to the Irazú volcano was a successful introduction to the beauties and diversity of Costa Rica's nature.
