We drive, drive, drive... unfortunately not on the highway

One last wonderful dinner at Terra Luna Lodge overlooking the lake. Then it was time to say goodbye and the lake showed itself at its best once again. Blue sky, bright colors on the lake and a rainbow on the mountain in the background 🌈 ☀️💦
Now it was time to drive, drive, drive. We hadn't booked an overnight stay and wanted to get as far as possible. As a result, we were on the road for 10 hours and covered 510 kilometers. The last few kilometers we had a clear goal in mind: Puyuhuapi. In the Hosteria Alemana, which hopefully still had a free room for us. One had canceled, we were able to get a room! Pure joy because it is simply beautiful there. The nice hostess with whom we can speak German and the clean rooms. The lovely breakfast and there are really good restaurants in town. And three of them.
This is something special, as we now know. In many places there is nothing at all. Restaurants went bankrupt during the pandemic. Or they opened according to a system that we haven't figured out yet. There is an “open” sign on the door, the door is locked. That's why we eat at the lodge when there is an offer. Otherwise it will be difficult and we won't feel like searching. Especially since the food in the lodges has been excellent so far!
We continued the next morning, but we only had to drive 165 kilometers, which is 3 hours here. The destination was the Peuma Lodge in Futaleufu. The lodge is still 25 kilometers away from the town, but many things are administratively consolidated here over long distances. The town and the area are known for whitewater rafting tours in canoes and boats. The river is no longer so wild in late summer, but there are still enough tourists here. It's nothing for us. We enjoy the wonderful lodge, the great cabin, the hot tub and the view from the terrace.
Tomorrow we'll get out of bed at 6 a.m. and then head to the ferry. According to Sandra's route planner, we need 5.5 hours to cover the 188 kilometers. The employees here think it's only 3.5 hours and we can still have a nice breakfast. It's too hot for us, we're too German. If we miss the ferry, we'll be stuck. Because the next day the flight goes south. Our booked ferry is also subsidized. This is what the state is doing and connecting the areas in the south. The non-subsidized ferry then costs 4x as much. And you can only reserve everything with a Chilean credit card, so you need an agency. Everything is very complicated - so it's better to leave early enough 🚙⛴️
We now arrived happily at the hotel in Puerto Montt at 9 p.m. and have internet. That's why you'll hear from us 😀 while we drink a very tasty Austral Calafate Ale 🍺
