Day 4
And out of bed again at 6:45 a.m., before breakfast, we set off.
Disembarkation and transfer to Cape Horn. For many travelers this was the highlight, some were very excited. Cape Horn cannot be reached on 60% of trips due to bad weather. Or to put it another way: only 40% of passengers get the chance to visit Cape Horn. So I put on everything that would fit under the life jacket and off we went.
In rocky waves we went to the pier, up 157 steps and then to the Albatros Monument. The photos from there are like the weather. As soon as we arrived, it started to hail. But we don't want to complain, that's part of Cape Horn. And last time the sea was as smooth as a child's bottom. That wasn't realistic.
In addition to the Albatros Monument, there are various memorial stones, a chapel and the lighthouse. The keeper lives there with his wife, 2 daughters and the cat Calafate 🐈 The woman is also the ranger of the Cape Horn National Park. And the daughters sell small souvenirs. The cat is just beautiful 😀
We don't have to mention that immediately after returning to the ship the sun came out and cast a wonderful rainbow 🌈 over the rocks. We don't have a photo of it because there was breakfast 🍳 😀
