The route is the goal

Us again 😀 contrary to expectations, our hosteria has internet.

A quick look back at our delicious breakfast and the beautiful Hotel Alemania on the fjord and off we go over the Hopperdietzel (the name in Chile is so awesome 😄) bridge out of the city and further south. Today we have a distance of 348 km to Puerto Ibanez ahead of us. That doesn't sound like much at first, but via Ruta 7, i.e. the Carrretera Austral, it's around 6.5 hours. Some of the road is not paved and deep potholes warn you to be careful. We don't want to have a flat tire in the middle of the world.

By the way, we haven't seen a car repair shop on the entire route. There's definitely one in the only big city here in the south of Chile. Coyhaique has around 50,000 inhabitants. A real shock after all the loneliness. We drove through quickly. At the first traffic light we were honked at because we didn't drive off fast enough... I applaud the slowness because we can't go any further because of a cow or a dog in the middle of the road, as we've experienced several times before.

Around midday the thirst for coffee started. In the nice town of Villa Manihuales, many cars were parked in front of some kind of event hall. We dared to go in and were rewarded. The Maqui Berry Festival was celebrated. With a berry quiche there was coffee, Maqui chocolate and, as everywhere, incredibly friendly people. We can talk with our hands and feet 😀 and bureaucracy also exists in Chile. We receive a handwritten receipt for the fee for using the toilet 💰

In the evening our hostess reserved a place for us in a nice restaurant. Sandra was able to try the Calafate Sour straight away. Pisco, sugar syrup and lime juice with egg white is the classic pisco sour. Here the egg white is replaced with calafate berry juice. Tasty, but Sandra prefers the original.

Finally, a beer after work and goodnight.
