Lying frog!

Last night we could still sit outside for a long time until it started raining. Since we didn't have a TV or a couch, we did some fun things, as you surely saw 😂

The Instagram wannabe models like to pose with a glass of wine and fancy clothes in a romantic way, which is a pretended illusory world - we made fun of that a bit 😉

Fun is a must!

During the night, it rained heavily and thundered, everything outside was wet, so we had to have breakfast inside this morning. So the plan for today: a circular hike nearby over 6km, partly through forest area and in rain-appropriate clothing. The weather forecast hadn't predicted anything good, showers were expected all day.

But before that, we wanted to make a spontaneous stop at the mountain railway station. At that time, the sky still looked friendly, so we thought 'let's take a quick trip up the mountain' and see how it looks up there. So the Grasjoch Bahn took us from about 820m up to 1976m to the Grasjoch-Hütte, from where there are many hiking trails of varying difficulty levels. But we only took a short walk to the nearest summit cross (3 minutes on foot) and took photos of each other, and continued with the Hochalpila Bahn to the highest point there at 2443m. The gondolas of this railway had orange-colored windows, so don't be surprised by the one photo.

The view from up there is absolutely amazing! Wherever you look, each mountain looks different, you can discover something special everywhere, you can't stop marveling.

The sky still hadn't lost its positive blue and rain didn't seem imminent at all! We had backpacks with us anyway, so we just threw all our plans out the window and decided to hike down to the Grasjoch-Hütte. That's about 460 meters downhill, about 2.7km on rocky, narrow paths with no trees but lots of colorful flowers in a totally impressive setting.

After about half of the way, there was a large stone that was the ideal picnic spot, where we strengthened ourselves with pretzels, bell peppers, mini salami, and tea. The sun shone on our bellies and our spirits, it was really magnificent!

After about 1:15h we reached the train station again and treated ourselves to a Radler before taking the train back down to the valley.

But since it was only early afternoon and STILL no sign of the predicted bad weather, we drove by car to Gaschurn to the Versettla Bahn.

This mountain railway went from the valley (980m) to the middle station and then to the mountain top at 2014m. It rises so steeply, it looks sometimes unbelievably incredible, whoever designed and built it must be crazy!

Upon arrival, we were greeted by a herd of cows. Each one tinkled with her bell in a different key or mooed almost to hoarseness. New inspirations for future hiking tours were discovered, overwhelming views were enjoyed, and unconditional satisfaction was celebrated before going back down.

For all the mountain railway rides, we would have easily paid around 120€ today, but thanks to the leisure pass, we could enjoy everything 'for free'.

A short walk through the village did not bring the desired success of getting souvenirs. While other holiday regions are full of souvenir shops, here they make a fortune with ski hotels or (inter)sport shops. You can tell that it is more of a popular winter sports region. Après-ski bars are also plentiful near the train stations, but they are closed in the summer.

We started the 10-minute drive home at just the right moment because suddenly the rain started to dribble on the car, but within minutes it became so heavy that the streets were flooded. From the car to our cabin (which is actually only 1 minute away), we got REALLY soaked!!!

Anyway, we made the most of the day and stopped at just the right moment. The weather frog can go to hell!
