First shopping, then go for a run

Published: 22.07.2022

Today, the morning started with sun rays tickling our noses through the skylight - and the alarm clock ringing at 8am 🤭 because last night we spent a long time studying maps to choose hiking routes for the next few days.

As promised, the bags of rolls with good pastries were waiting for us at our door, and we treated ourselves to a leisurely breakfast in the fresh air. Wonderful!

Then we went to the cable car station to get leisure passes for the region. These passes allow us unlimited rides on all cable cars, public transportation, entry to the swimming pools, toll exemption on the Silvretta High Alpine Road, and discounts at museums. It costs a small sum, but thanks to the guest cards we received, we also got a small discount. The leisure passes are valid from tomorrow, then the active vacation really begins 💪

Once that was done, we went shopping for some supplies: fresh fruit and vegetables for the hiking picnic boxes, breakfast items for the weekend, and potatoes and quark. I'll pick herbs from the raised bed 😉

Back at the Cabinski, we finally unpacked our suitcases and organized everything. Yesterday, we lacked the desire, motivation, and ideas... but now everything has its place.

In the afternoon, it was time to take the first steps with our hiking shoes. The trail started at the wooden bridge, about 500m from here, along the Ill River. We walked along a narrow, wooded path parallel to the tributary of the Alpine Rhine, where we repeatedly discovered small paths right by the water over rounded stones. Funny moment: there was a spot right by the water labeled as the barbecue area of a holiday home, where a young lady was sunbathing (or sizzling 😂).

The team of the local soccer club gathered at the football field for a group photo, we naturally noticed it with a hint of nostalgia as well (we still have to pay for 3.Liga and Sky for another year...)

NEVER MIND! I don't want to bore you with that.

We continued along the river until we reached the valley station of the cable car. Our next plan was to walk along the Gweilbach. We found a hiking tip on the cabinskis blog. We also walked up to the bridge, with the stream flowing below us, but after several attempts, we realized that we just couldn't find the path down to the cool water. Here you are welcome to help us with a more detailed description or map, dear Cabinskis.

Anyway, we strolled back to our cozy home and thus covered about 6km in just under 2 hours for our first day of getting our rusty limbs back into action. We overcame 171 meters of altitude. That's acceptable for a start, right? We also stopped often to admire the nature, the view, or the people 🤭

If you would like to see the hike visualized, André has created a video:

Today, we're preparing for our first longer hike: brewing tea, filling the picnic boxes, packing backpacks... oh, and most importantly: enjoying the heavenly tranquility on the veranda 🥰

Stay happy

(and keep your fingers crossed for good weather, tomorrow rain and thunderstorms are actually forecasted, but we'll see)
