Hey! The day before yesterday evening I was in a place where you can buy beer very cheaply. Here, people just take a chair from a huge stack and sit on the street. Various musicians provide the appropriate background music.
Here I met two guys from England. One of them now lives here and has insider knowledge as a result (but more on that later).
Yesterday, during the day, I was in the botanical garden. Unbelievable.... for the first few minutes, I took a photo every 20 seconds until I realized that you can't capture this splendor in pictures. Simply amazing to look at, and there were lots of monkeys. You had to be careful of what was falling from above the trees, as the monkeys were frolicking above you.
I got a tip from the English guy that there was an underground concert in the evening. That was my dream scenario before I got on the plane. Punk and hardcore concerts are not really welcome and are sometimes violently cleared out. The concert was only announced a few hours earlier, and you have to call the organizer to inquire if it is taking place or if it has been canceled at short notice. It was a pretty run-down building from which I could hear music and where I had 3 cans of beer before I dared to climb the stairs.
The concert blew me away. Not primarily because of the music. Asian punk rockers, straight edge kids, Oi-skins, girls with headscarves... everyone was there and celebrated together to music that at times sounded like the devil himself was swinging an axe.
With a band shirt as a souvenir, I happily went to the hostel and went to bed.
Today we went to the national park and climbed through the rainforest along the coast to Monkey Beach. Parts of the path were completely unpaved, and climbing required athletic prowess, which of course presented no problem for me. You even have to register beforehand in case you get lost. But the result was worth it.....
