06 to Northeim

Distance 101 kilometers, cumulative 665 kilometers | Elevation 630, cumulative 2‘840 meters, distance from home 523 kilometers (as-the-crow-flies)

The weather is still wonderfully sunny, cool, and occasionally windy. I feel the wind especially in the power consumption of the batteries. In Denmark, a hostess once told me: “You in Switzerland have the mountains, and we have the wind.” Sometimes it pushes, but most of the time it holds back. I often think of this woman when it is windy while riding.

Unfortunately, I did not see my very nice hosts today. I would have liked to say goodbye in person. But since I did not hear anything either, I did not want to disturb.

The path continued for a while along the Fulda, and once again there was a short stretch on an old railway embankment. After a right turn off the bike path, I left the course of the Fulda. It became hilly and sometimes went uphill for longer periods. Compared to the climbs I experienced in Spain last year, this was very mild. I am sure there will also be greater elevations on this journey.

Today I took relatively few photos. This is partly because the areas I passed through, while very beautiful, are always similar. On the other hand, it is also always an interruption of my ride, because I have to stop, get off, and can only continue after taking the picture. Sometimes stopping is not even possible, for example because a car is coming or the path is too narrow. Then I take a mental photo that I store in my mind.

Already during the route planning I saw that there was a staircase to overcome somewhere. It was an elevated bridge that had to be climbed via a steep staircase. A helpful man assisted me with pushing. Coming down was not so far on one hand, and on the other hand, it was easier; I just had to brake enough.

After the Fulda and the hills came the Leine, also a beautiful stream that has created an entire valley over thousands of years. From here it was all downhill, while on one hand, I remembered the Danish woman again, and the headwind became stronger.

After just over 100 kilometers, I reached Northeim and my hotel.
