Route 108 kilometers, cum. 457 kilometers | Elevation 940, cum. 1,790 meters, distance from home 381 kilometers (as the crow flies)
My fourth day of travel is already behind me. All four days were filled with sunshine, although it was cold and often very windy. A headwind also requires energy from me and from the bike, but about 100 kilometers is always within the realm of possibility.
The apartment in Wixhausen was excellent, and I slept wonderfully. So I was able to set off shortly after 8 a.m., refreshed and strengthened.
Germany has many cycle paths. Today I even discovered bicycle streets within the city. Although cars are allowed to drive there, I assume that cyclists have the right of way. Right at the beginning, just outside Wixhausen, I even rode on a cycle highway. This runs from Darmstadt to Frankfurt, about 30 kilometers. I think that you often arrive at your destination faster there than by car. Unfortunately, it was only a short stretch for me.
After that, I followed the Main River until, after about 30 kilometers, I came to a ferry that took me to the other side of the river for one euro. Afterwards, I climbed up to a high path with many wind turbines and beautiful vistas. Unfortunately, the path was suddenly blocked due to road construction. But where there's a will, there's a way. Adventurous, yet entirely feasible for me alone.
In fact, the bike paths from this point on were mostly away from the road; only occasionally did I have to detour onto the road for short distances. Towards the end of the tour, the path continued slightly uphill along a former railway line. I had already encountered such paths last year in Spain. For cyclists, it's a fast and relaxing way to progress.
At the very end, my route did lead me onto forest paths, as this route was somewhat shorter. However, I doubt that it was actually faster.

Then I continued along the Main River until, after about 30 kilometers, I reached a ferry that took me across the river for one euro. After that, we ascended on a high path with many wind turbines and a nice view. Unfortunately, the path was suddenly blocked due to roadworks. But where there's a will, there's a way. Although it was an adventure, it was certainly something I could manage on my own.
