My start in China

Published: 09.07.2018

Hello,
a week ago my journey to China began, a good time to send you a short update from me back home. Last Sunday, I started with an adventurous flight to Shanghai... Delay, emergency landing in Warsaw for medical reasons, no luggage due to the first delay to Munich,... But what counts is that I arrived safely and my luggage also arrived after 2 days. Thanks to my roommates here who I already know from Germany and who also studied with me at my company, I settled in pretty quickly because they took me everywhere with them. 😊

The Chinese food is not really my thing, I avoid the meat here but somehow I always get full and so we enjoy burgers last Wednesday or the sub from Subway today 😊 The people here are okay, I don't understand most of them and they don't understand me either 😂
The subways and trains have passenger and luggage controls just like at the airport, really takes some getting used to... What was also very confusing is that the sun sets here at 7 pm and rises at 4 in the morning... Or it gets bright, you never really see the sun in Suzhou, just smog...

This weekend we went on our first trip to Hangzhou, a city by a lake with many tea mountains. It was really cool there, slightly rainy and hot yesterday and only hot today, I don't remember the last time I sweated so much... But I don't want to complain, today we saw blue sky and sun 😊 and in the tea plantations in the forest it was relatively 'pleasant'.

Tomorrow it's back to work, which is also quite pleasant here, the factory here is super new and similar to the one at home. We go in the morning with our own driver and come back in the evening. Since we work from 9 am to 5 pm, the weekdays are usually pretty much over.

There will surely be pictures of Suzhou, but so far there hasn't been much to see except for smog 😅
