Like most visitors to Rome, we also went to the Vatican. There, we visited the Castel Sant'Angelo, St. Peter's Square and St. Peter's Basilica (from the outside), and the Vatican Museums. We initially planned to spend only half a day there, but the museums are so extensive that it took a bit longer.
The opulence and the many treasures gathered there are simply incredible and almost impossible to comprehend in such quantity. My personal highlight was the Sistine Chapel, where the famous wall paintings by Michelangelo can be found (with the hands of God and Adam almost touching). Unfortunately, I had a stomachache that day, so we didn't wait in line for 2 more hours to visit St. Peter's Basilica. Instead, we went home relatively quickly.
