Rainy program on the Lofoten Islands

It's July 14, 2022, and it's raining. Here on the Lofoten Islands, there are so many beautiful white sandy beaches, and the water looks so inviting - but the weather doesn't. We make a stop at Rambergstranda and could imagine spending the whole day here in the sun.

But instead, we prefer to continue to Nusfjord. This beautiful fishing village is now only a open-air museum and resort, and you have to pay an 'entrance fee.' This time, we also visit the old shipyard, the fishing museum, the sawmill, the gallery, and the general store. In the old tavern, we enjoy pizza and beer and take a walk to a small viewpoint at the harbor.

Since we have to do laundry and need a shower again, we spend the night at the 'Lofoten Beach Camp' campground directly on the beach near Flakstad. It's raining and windy, so we set up our rear tent to at least be a little protected.

Also on July 15, 2022: rain. We are somewhat demotivated and decide to dismantle our wet tent late in the day and visit a well-known glassblowing studio nearby. The Glashytta in Vikten produces really beautiful vases, and you can even watch the talented glassblowers at work right in the salesroom. Besides, it's pleasantly warm here because of the ovens, and we treat ourselves to coffee and cake - just the right thing for this weather!

A bit too late, we decide to leave the cozy room and go to the Viking Museum in Borg. With an entry fee of 22€ per person, it's not exactly cheap, and we find out why inside: we are greeted by a technically well-prepared museum with many exhibits, videos, a small cinema, and the corresponding grounds are even larger. You can walk to a replica of the largest longhouse ever found from the Viking Age, 83 meters long. Here you can touch everything, try on clothing from that time, and see and experience how the Vikings lived. But that still wasn't all. We walk about 15 minutes through the area, past horses and pigs and a few attractions, such as archery, Viking chess, horseshoe throwing, and much more. The ride on a replica Viking ship, on which we could/must have rowed ourselves, would also have been included in the price. But the last ride of the day was already fully booked. We definitely recommend this museum, but bring at least 3 hours with you!

Finally, near the Vik and Haukland Beaches, we find a small spot where we can park Freedolin for the night. In the evening, we can say that we made the most out of the rainy days!
