Australian Museum

已发表: 08.02.2017

The weather today was very changeable with showers. Therefore, this morning I decided to make my way to the Australian Museum. It wasn't far from my hostel, I only needed to take a three station bus ride to get there. Once I got off the bus, I could already see the first high-rise buildings. The spacious streets are lined with trees and bushes, which suits the slightly tropical weather today.

Right around the corner is the Australian Museum. It is a huge impressive building. There are two different tickets to see the exhibition. One is for the general area. The other ticket includes the general area as well as a special area: Spiders - Alive and Deadly. The special thing here is that you can actually see live specimens. However, that was a little too much for me, so I stuck with the regular ticket.

The museum is not only huge from the outside, but also from the inside. It is divided into several areas, each with its own theme. Wildlife, Indigenous, Sealife, and Dinosaurs. Each theme is built with great attention to detail. In the Wildlife area, there were many stuffed animals, and in some cases, you were even allowed to touch their fur. Many specimens were displayed in glass cases, but some were also built on pedestals in the rooms or hanging from the ceiling. Everywhere you could get information about the individual species, whether through texts, videos, interactive touch screens, or interactive signs. At one point, you could compare the fur or skin of the animals, at another the teeth. There was a lot to read and it was very interestingly set up, especially through the various means you could use. The stuffed animals, which had a creepy factor, also depicted breeding and other life scenes, making the representation appear more realistic and understandable. Somehow, the animals gained a little bit of life. I spent over two hours there and didn't read everything.

A visit to this museum is definitely recommended :)
