We drove to another lookout, Cape Ottway Lookout. The pictures on the internet looked promising, but the reality was very disappointing. A small path led to the lookout, but all we could see among the bushes was a very small white lighthouse, not even worth taking a photo. As an alternative, we could have paid a ridiculous entrance fee to explore a fenced area around the lighthouse, including its history. Since this was not an option for us, and we would have had to wait for 30 minutes, we drove to our next stop. On the way, we encountered not only kangaroos but also a white deer. I didn't think such animals exist in Australia, but yes, it was a white deer. A pretty big one, too, standing in the middle of the road.
After a short rainforest walk, we went to Shelly Beach. A sign warned us about snakes, but we didn't actually see any. The beach was initially small, but around the corner, it became spacious. There was nothing particularly special to see - maybe we are already spoiled by all the beaches...
We continued on the Great Ocean Road with a quick stop at Cape Patten Lookout. From here, we could see a part of the GOR and had a nice view of the sea. If only the weather would cooperate :( At least we managed to spot a wild koala sitting in a tree during our drive :)
Next, we visited Erskine Falls, a huge waterfall as you can maybe see in the photos. Again, a short walk through the rainforest led us to the waterfall.
After a few detours and stops, unfortunately with some bad luck involved (including the weather), we continued to Melbourne. We arrived at our AirBnB hostel at 7 p.m. We were warmly welcomed and had our own room for three people. To celebrate our last few days, we treated ourselves to some wine. Since the two girls were not in a party mood, I met up with some friends from university who happened to be in Melbourne at the same time.
The evening even brought me some luck as I found $20 ;) So I got my drinks for the evening covered :)
