Day 3: SFO Zoo and Mission District

已发表: 24.09.2022

San Francisco Zoo and the artist district: 'Mission District'

After getting acquainted with the hostel kitchen and preparing ourselves a more or less substantial breakfast, we set off to the SFO Zoo. We were able to quickly reach the zoo by subway and bus. Upon arriving at the zoo, we noticed little difference compared to its European counterparts. The animals appeared to be well-cared for, the enclosures were large enough, and there was always something for playing and interacting.

Our personal highlight in the zoo was the extremely elegant snow leopard, who reminded us a bit of Kung Fu Panda. But the grizzlies and red pandas were also real eye-catchers. After about 5 hours, we finished our tour and ventured to the famous Mission District, the artist district.
After a short scare (Manfred thought he left his wallet on the bus) and walking a few extra meters, we immediately began the search for a Mexican burrito stand, which we had heard so much about. It was one of our best decisions so far :) the burrito was heavenly and also relatively inexpensive.

After reenergizing ourselves, we went on a discovery tour through the district and found some truly interesting artistic works. It should be noted that almost all of the works have political or social-critical backgrounds and all promote better cohesion and tolerance within our society. Despite occasional exhaustion, we kept putting one foot in front of the other and eventually reached a coffee shop that revived us with excellent coffee.

We then returned to the hostel by BART and bus. Since we needed to catch up on a few hours of sleep and our feet were starting to feel the strain from the past few days' expeditions, we decided to go to bed a little earlier today, which turned out to be a very wise decision.
