Key West, located at the southern end of the Florida Keys and only 90 miles from Cuba, is a special place on this earth. The prevailing atmosphere and the unique 'Way of Life' immediately captivated us. People take things easy here, and that was also our motto today... After the kids didn't have a chance to splash around yesterday, we made up for it after our leisurely breakfast by the pool. No one left the water until their fingers were wrinkled. :-) But in the early afternoon, we did leave the hotel. Passing Duval Street - where the hustle and bustle gets really colorful in the evening - we headed towards Hemingway House with a slice of Key Lime Pie in hand. Ernest had quite an impressive estate built for himself there. The famous Hemingway cats with their six toes were particularly exciting for the kids. The attempt to explore the city by bike failed miserably - this time, however, without our doing. In sweltering hot 96 degrees Fahrenheit, the renter sent us twice across the entire city and ultimately failed to find 3 minibikes for the kids.
During a late lunch on Duval, we took note of the French team's advance to the finals. In the evening, two obligatory events awaited us. First, the dreamy Key West sunset - which, in our perception, is unmatched - and then, of course, we had to take a photo at the southernmost point of the USA. Fortunately, that was possible around 10:30 pm without annoying queues. Tomorrow we will continue to the Everglades - hopefully, some alligators are waiting for us there!
