Lake Taupo - The Fishing Pro

Ipapashiwe: 15.02.2017

From Tauranga, we continued on to Taupo today. Here we are now right on Lake Taupo. The largest lake in New Zealand. A volcanic crater filled with water. Quite impressive.

On the way from Tauranga, we stopped at a hardware store just before our destination. We finally needed a camping table and had never been able to find one until now. But here, in the smallest hardware store I have ever seen, there were even two to choose from. Top class. Now we finally have a table. Next to it was also a 'The Warehouse'. Fishing was on offer there. I have no idea how to operate those things, but I still wanted to get one. There must be someone at Lake Taupo who can show me a little bit about it. After all, anyone can fish here. They don't have anything like a fishing license here. So we packed up a few fishing supplies and off we went.

Then we arrived. Ok. Nothing going on. Is this even a parking lot? There were sheep all around us. But apparently that's the way it is, there were a few others standing here too.

One thing you can say, it's beautiful here - once again. The huge lake that you can look out over and see mountains. A huge meadow area. Sheep everywhere. It can't get any more natural than this.

After getting out, I took a look at my new hunting tool. Where does the thread go now? That way? I first typed into Google how to use a fishing rod. It didn't really help. Eventually, Svenja and I managed, with all our power, to get the fishing rod ready for fishing.

After that, I searched for tutorials showing the best way to stun, kill, gut, and clean the fish. Just in case I get lucky. I don't want to unnecessarily make the poor creature suffer.

Then we went to the lake. What follows now is a tragedy.

Once cast, everything tangled up right away. That's how it went almost the whole time. I immediately didn't feel like it anymore. But who becomes a fishing pro in an instant? Eventually, it got better. I slowly got the hang of it. But it got dark and we were hungry, so we temporarily gave up on our venture. Tomorrow I'll try my luck again. Another camper said that there will be a motor club here in the next few days, which gathers here for fishing. Maybe I'm lucky that someone can show me the ropes. We'll see...
