Today we continue our journey towards the south. The destination is Île de Ré, which is located near La Rochelle.
We stock up on food and drinks and drive on country roads (which can sometimes be called dirt roads) towards La Rochelle.
Since 1988, a toll bridge has connected the island to the mainland, so we don't have to swim😂
Everything here looks very well-maintained, but also more touristy. Since today is Saturday, the weather is perfect, and many French people are flocking to the island. To our surprise, there are also many Germans on the camping site, which is fully occupied. This is already one of many "municipal camping sites" that is located behind the dunes, next to a sandy beach, and is really affordable.
We are very surprised how cheap camping sites are here and usually very clean. When compared to motorhome parking spaces, you pay slightly more for significantly more comfort and a better location. The most expensive camping site was €21 per night.
La Courade sur mer is a cute little town with lots of restaurants and a market hall around the corner.
There is a good network of cycle paths, which we will test tomorrow. For the rest of the day, I have migraine 😳 and go to bed.
