Drive to Puno

Ipapashiwe: 12.02.2024

I woke up shortly before 4, checked out and then waited for transport. Unfortunately, it took a little longer than stated. The transport was supposed to be there at 4:20 and it ended up being there just after 5. This wasn't a problem for me, but the night guard would have to stay awake the whole time. I was a little sorry about that. Then we went to the bus station and then straight onto the bus. The seats were again very comfortable and everyone had a window seat. The journey took almost 6 hours. At the beginning I fell asleep a bit every now and then, but for the last 2 hours I was completely awake. The view was phenomenal again. Even though it's a long drive, it's so beautiful to watch the scenery. I generally love taking the bus and with such a beautiful view. Theoretically I could also get to the bus from Cusco to Lima, but 25 hours would be a bit long. That's why I booked the flight. When I arrived in Puno I took my luggage and got out. Since my accommodation is on Lake Titicaca, no transportation is offered. That's why I grabbed a taxi or a tuk-tuk, a mini vehicle. The taxi driver didn't know the place, but he just had to go along the coast. The trip was cheap for just under 20 minutes at 10 soles (€2.50), even if he said something about 5 soles at the beginning. Then I went to the port and really hoped that it was the right one. But my boat was already waiting there. The woman brought her baby with her and we then drove about 10 minutes to the floating island. Really a cool experience. I have a large room with 2 beds. It's just a bit disturbing that 2 walls are completely equipped with windows. But I have a couple from Germany right next to me and no one else is. But that also makes you dependent. There is a restaurant 30 meters away, but you can't go in, you have to get there by boat. Unfortunately there is no socket and no WiFi, but that's not a bad thing. But I have a terrace where I rested first.

I was started on a small boat tour for 20 soles (5€) for an hour. Funnily enough, I can see the restaurant from my terrace and that's where I spot the two from Serbia. Then I briefly asked the owner if she would drive me over. I had a coffee there and chatted with them for a bit. About the coffee: I was given a cup of hot water and then a packet of instant coffee and some milk. For 5 soles (1.25€) you can't complain. Then his taxi driver drove me back. I had a small snack and the little boat trip started around 3 p.m. I love the water and I think it's great that I wasn't on a ship with 100 people, it was just the family. She showed me a few places and then we went to an island where I was explained how these islands are formed. First, large blocks of clay are placed under the water and then different layers are added. Think it's ship. Very interesting. The entire process can take 1.5 years and such an island only lasts for 25-30 years. Then I was able to buy souvenirs, or you could say I was very kindly asked to do so. Then we took another boat back to my cabin.

I agreed with the owner that I would like dinner at 7 p.m. There's something about chicken. Breakfast tomorrow at 7 on my terrace and then I booked a trip from 9:20 a.m. to 4 p.m. I didn't quite understand where we were going, but it includes lunch, a boat tour and we go to an island and at the end we arrive in Puno. And I can also take my suitcase with me, so perfect.

So now I spend time on the terrace. I'll read my book and enjoy the view as I need to save battery as I won't be able to shop until tomorrow. But the view is so beautiful. You don't really need anything more.

I'll get back to you tomorrow.
