Climbing Mount Vesuvius

Today we are going to Vesuvius. The only active volcano in Europe, 1281m high and one of the 15 most dangerous volcanoes in Europe.

I will take the train to Ercolano Scavi and from there I have booked a transfer to the starting point, 1070m. The path is about 1 km long, made of rubble and gray sand along the crater with a gentle incline.

It looks peaceful, like a mountain with a hole in the middle. At one point, there is even steam rising - but nothing is shaking.

A wonderful view of Naples, the Bay of Naples, and as far as Capri opens up.

The elevation next to Vesuvius is Monte Somma. Until about 1631, Naples extended up to there.

In the evening, I stroll through the streets and alleys of Naples, letting myself be carried away. For dinner, there are zucchini flowers filled with cheese and Gnocchi Sorrentino.
