We took a taxi to 'The Ghan' terminal in Adelaide. The luggage was received by staff members. We were invited to the waiting hall where there was live music and champagne. The hostess, one person per carriage, personally escorted each passenger to their compartment. She explained all the functions, such as radio, bathroom, etc. You could sit alone in your compartment or have a drink at the bar, where everyone had access.
The scenery kept changing, and it was exciting to look outside. I saw emus, wild horses, and cattle.
All drinks and food were included, and a lot was drunk. I had lunch at 14:15, and I ordered dinner for 20:30. The food was really excellent, with various appetizers, mains, and desserts. After dinner, the bed was ready for sleeping, or you could sit at the bar, have a drink, and chat with other travelers.
So I didn't sleep much until the train stopped. Then I was able to sleep for about three hours. You could get up at 5:30 to see the sunrise. Outside, there were two large fire pits and lamps illuminating the area. Coffee and orange juice were served. For breakfast, there were sandwiches with egg, ham, and ketchup, fruits, and pastries. The sunrise in Marla was very beautiful and special in the middle of nowhere. Brunch was served at 10:00, and again there was a lot of champagne and wine. The train arrived in Alice Springs at 13:45.
The train journey by 'The Ghan' is highly recommended.
