Côte d'Azur (France Part 17)

We drove along the coastal road from Marseille towards Cannes. Our first stop was Cassis, where we walked along the marina and observed the hustle and bustle of the first tourists and morning deliveries to the waterfront restaurants.

During the rest of the journey, we took the 'Route des Crêtes', which runs directly along the Mediterranean coast.

Even though the road winds up curvy, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the landscape of the 'Les Calanques' National Park from the top.

During a stop at the beach of Sainte-Maxime, we were able to look over to Saint-Tropez and also saw the sailing ship 'Royal Clipper', with which we would set sail the next day.

A little further along the coast, we made another stop for a coffee and found a restaurant right on the beach. Because it was so empty, we were initially unsure if it had opened, but we were kindly invited inside. Actually, it was still quite cool on the terrace, even though some people were already daring to swim in the water.

We continued driving on a small coastal road on the Corniche d'Or until we reached Cannes. This is the spot where the writer and pilot Antoine de Saint-Exupéry crashed into the sea in 1944.
