Day 1 of my world trip.
I am surprised and overjoyed that not only did I make it to Istanbul in time for the long-haul flight to Cape Town, but apparently my luggage did too. My trolley is waiting for me on the baggage carousel. What a joy! Then I quickly exchanged some money and bought a SIM card, and now the adventure can begin. Denja is already waiting for me - how wonderful! Things are going well. We cruise through the unfamiliar left-hand traffic in the car. Since it's too early to check in, we combine the pleasant with the even more pleasant and drive to the Waterfront. A place that every tourist must visit. We let ourselves wander and can hardly decide which delicacy in the cute food market to choose. Of course, I have to try something new and opt for the Springbok wrap with truffle parmesan fries. Yummy! Food will definitely be a highlight in South Africa. With our snack, we sit in the sun, listen to live music, and enjoy the food as well as the panoramic view of the harbor with the Table Mountain landmark in the background. What a perfect moment! We immediately start talking to other travelers, and Denja's insider tips are in high demand. That's what I love about traveling! Salt caramel and cinnamon blueberry flurry ice cream also have to be tried, so we stroll along the Waterfront and through the gallery of arts and crafts. We both have hearts in our eyes and - bam - the first souvenir is already bought. Haha! I agree with Peter and think of the eleventh commandment: Thou shalt buy more awesome souvenirs. After that, we check into the hostel and then drive to Signal Hill, because Denja has the brilliant idea of enjoying the sunset (which happens at 6:30 PM here). The view is spectacular. Can a first day be more beautiful? I don't think so.
