La daabacay: 22.11.2016
Hello everyone,
We are currently lying on the beach in Koh Phi Phi, sipping on our 4th fruitshake of the day (here, the Oreo cookie is referred to as a fruit...).
After our last night in Chiang Rai, we managed to catch a bus to Pai on our second attempt. The journey here is known as the 'Road of 762 Curves', and now we, and our stomachs, understand why it deserves that name.
Once we arrived, we quickly found a simple hostel where we spent our only night in Pai. In the evening and the following morning, we explored the small backpacker town with its hippie vibe on foot.
In the afternoon, we embarked on a long journey to Hua Hin, a seaside town located about 1000 km south of Pai. The journey turned out to be more extensive than expected: in the end, we traveled for 25 hours with 6 different buses, and in the last bus, which was actually a 9-seater, there were 21 of us.
Upon arrival in Hua Hin, we treated ourselves to a dreamy room with a sea view. Since Mara had her birthday the next day, we couldn't rest but celebrated her 19th intensively. After the whole bar full of Thais sang Happy Birthday, the bar owner treated us to another round.
The next morning, we were, let's just say, 'tired', and spent the day at the beach after Mara was woken up with breakfast in bed.
The next day, it was time to move on again, and we once again took a night bus, this time to Thailand's largest island, Phuket. Here, we stayed in a surfer hostel in a dormitory. We spent our days at the beach and in the evenings, we passed the time in the common room of the hostel, where we met many new people and enjoyed a private concert by some Brazilians. On our last evening, together with 2 other Germans, we visited the 'Great Buddha', a huge Buddha statue on a hill with a great view of the island.
Yesterday, we were picked up from the hostel at 7 am and took the ferry past 'Maya Beach' (filming location of 'The Beach' with Leonardo DiCaprio) to the smaller island of Koh Phi Phi. There is no car traffic here, so the main mode of transportation is the longboat -> an ideal place to spend a few peaceful days.
In a few days, we will return to the mainland and go to Krabi.
We are now going back into the water, the sweating is becoming unbearable.
The dynamic trio,
