-Chapter 10- Visit to Mount Maunganui

La daabacay: 11.08.2020

The next morning, we felt a bit homeless as we got ready in the McDonalds toilet. Our mood was at its lowest, so we went to a proper campsite in Tauranga. We were lucky because it was so beautiful that it could almost have been in Germany. The older man at the reception was very nice to us and even visited us later on to show us how to get electricity with our cable. The rest of the day, we packed the car and met two German girls who had been told by the receptionist that we also spoke German.

Sunday was the perfect weather. We went to Mount Maunganui, a mountain that is almost completely surrounded by water. It took us unnecessarily long to get up there. At first, we took the wrong path and almost went all the way around the foot of the mountain until we simply climbed up a sheep meadow and finally found the right way.

We only knew one person really well who was in New Zealand at the same time as us. When we were almost at the top and were admiring the first view, our classmate stared at us in amazement. My first reaction was "No!" because I just couldn't believe it. Of course, the mountain is pretty much the only attraction in the Tauranga area, but it was such a crazy coincidence that we were walking the same path on the same day at the same time as her, especially since she had been traveling for almost 2 months longer than us. Well, there were really a lot of people going to Mount Maunganui, and even though it's a pretty mainstream attraction, we were very impressed. The view of the sea, the beautiful white beaches, and the city is simply worth the climb.
