April 30 + May 1, 2021 - The little ones keep us busy!

La daabacay: 03.05.2021

Right after I finished taking care of the stallions, it became clear that the whole day would go differently than planned. A small foal had to be brought in from the pasture by car. It was barely moving and severely hypothermic. Attempts were made to warm it up with blankets and heating blankets, it received pre-warmed infusions and attempts were made to stabilize it until the veterinarian arrived. It was barely moving. The mother mare was understandably very tense, but let everything be done to her and her foal. The veterinarian took a large amount of blood from the mother and transfused the foal with plasma. He was there for several hours injecting it, inserting lines, hanging new infusions... It slowly stabilized. Nevertheless, he decided to transport the foal to the clinic when it was stable enough. Both were loaded onto the truck. When they arrived at the clinic, the foal stood up by itself...

Here on the stud farm, everyday life continued nevertheless. Buyers of a mare came to pick up one of the young horses. They wanted to see the foxes (a coat color of the horse). So I showed them the foxes, I didn't even know the names of all the horses. 😇

When it came time to load the mare, the attempts of the new owners failed. Since Fly is really reliable when it comes to loading, I invited her next to it, as if practicing. The owners were informed that it is easier for the foal with another horse, but they still didn't bring one of theirs for transport. Hectic... This way of doing things also seemed a bit suspicious to me! Then my Fly got stuck in the trailer and when they flailed around, she got out by herself. Luckily, nothing happened except for a few wounds. It was a lesson for me - Fly is too precious to me for such pranks! From now on, only Nick and I will handle her. After all, they invited the little one in their own way: she is still a year old now. In a few years, the two men won't be strong enough to do it in that way anymore.

In the afternoon, I did loading training with other horses. They are doing great. They are calm and thoughtful, but they need time. I will use the time until the next horses are picked up and hope that the process will go more smoothly and that they will get the time they need.

In addition to the horses, the cats 🐈‍⬛ are also having offspring. Unfortunately, there are incredibly many of them. If anyone is interested in cats, please contact me... There are too many and they all need to be neutered!!
